Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma vowed on Monday to “not allow child marriages in Assam” after the state Cabinet abolished the Assam Muslim weddings and Divorces Registration Act of 1935, over opposition from the Congress and AIUDF. “Till I am alive, I won’t allow child marriage to happen in Assam,” Sarma said.
