India is considering reducing the import duty on high-end mobile phone components, which can benefit smartphone makers like Apple and boost phone exports. Major industry players are pushing for cuts on several components, and the reduced import duty will help reduce production costs and compete with regional rivals. The electronics & IT ministry is finalizing the proposal, expected to be included in the February 1 budget.
