Three foreign-born residents in Japan have filed a lawsuit against the national and local governments for alleged racial profiling during police questioning. This lawsuit, according to the plaintiffs’ lawyers, is the first of its kind in Japan.The timing of the lawsuit is significant, as the country is experiencing a surge in the number of foreign workers due to labor shortages and an aging population. The number of non-Japanese residents in Japan reached a record high of nearly 3 million last year.
