A Chinese company called Betavolt Technology is developing a radionuclide battery that can charge smartphones for decades. These batteries use radioactive decay and a layer of artificial diamond to generate electricity. The company claims that no radiation escapes and no toxic chemicals are produced. The battery can provide power for up to 50 years and works in extreme temperatures. Betavolt plans to make smaller batteries in the next two years to power mobile devices.
