The Law Commission has recommended a comprehensive central legislation, ‘Law on Matrimonial Issues Relating to Non-Resident Indians and overseas Citizens of India’, to deal with fraudulent marriages between NRIs and Indian citizens. The legislation should include provisions on divorces, maintenance of spouse, custody and maintenance of children. Amendments in the Passports Act, 1967 are also suggested.
